Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid disclosed a never-before-heard story about Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes following Sunday’s Super Bowl win.
Mahomes had another great Super Bowl outing as he threw for 333 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception en route to a third Super Bowl MVP, as well as a championship that takes him a little closer to Brady’s record of seven rings.
According to NFL reporter Ari Meirov, Reid described a heartwarming exchange between the two icons from 2019. The coach recalled Brady coming into the Chiefs locker room after beating them in the AFC Championship Game that year and passing the torch in person.
“I was there when Tom Brady said I’m turning the keys over to you,” Reid was quoted as saying. “He did it right in our locker room. And so I think Tom is as proud as anybody.”
Of course, Brady would still beat the younger star in the Super Bowl the following year, but he’s gone now and the NFL is Mahomes’ to rule. He’s since become a three-time Super Bowl winner, and one more would leave him with less than halfway to go in terms of catching up to the man he considers to be the GOAT.
