The NFL has handed down fines to Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes for their criticism of officials following last week’s home loss to the Buffalo Bills.
Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Reid was fined a hefty $100,000 for violating the league’s policy on publicly criticizing officials. Mahomes, meanwhile, was handed a $50,000 fine for unsportsmanlike conduct on referees.
Mahomes went off on the referees after the Chiefs turned the ball over on downs in their 20-17 loss. He and Reid were unhappy with an offsides call against wide receiver Kadarius Toney that took the latter’s go-ahead touchdown off the board.
After the game, a mic’d up Mahomes was heard further criticizing the referees to Bills quarterback Josh Allen. The reigning league MVP said, “Worst expletive call I’ve ever seen), as he walked away.
