Last weekend, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes pleaded with head coach Andy Reid to go back in the game after suffering an ankle injury against the Jaguars.
He clearly did not get what he wanted at the moment based on his reaction. Patrick Mahomes did not want to be sidelined because of an ankle injury and he let Andy Reid know it.
Backup quarterback Chad Henne went into the game for Mahomes, who was sent back for more treatment in the locker room. After the first half was done, Mahomes came out to play the rest of the game.
Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid went on the latest episode of Tom Brady’s “Let’s Go!” podcast and spoke on that moment. He stated he wanted to make sure Mahomes was okay.
“You love the grit, but sometimes you have to protect the player from the player,” Reid said. “These guys are wired differently. They want to rip your heart out in every possible way, jump on it, squeeze it, and everything else, and that’s how Patrick was at that time. I just wanted to make sure that son of a gun wasn’t broken.”
