Chiefs head coach Andy Reid was asked about the DWI charge against son Britt Reid On Monday during team media availability as off-season workouts began.
“Obviously, my prayers and thoughts go out to everybody involved. Because of the legal situation, I can’t talk about it now, but just from a humane standpoint, my heart goes out to those who are involved in it,” Reid said.
“There is a policy, and there is a league policy,” Andy Reid said. “I can’t go into all of that. But there is obviously a policy.”
Last week, Britt Reid was charged with driving while intoxicated for a crash that seriously injured a 5-year-old girl. The charges came more than two months after the former Kansas City Chiefs assistant coach was driving 82 mph in a 65 mph zone that led to a three-car crash in early February near Arrowhead Stadium.
Court documents say Reid’s blood alcohol content was measured at .113.
The 5-year-old girl, Ariel, was released from the hospital after waking up out of a coma, but Tiffany Verhulst, the girl’s cousin, she is nowhere near getting back to normal.
“Ariel is at home recovering, we hope that her being in a familiar place will help her remember things. She is doing physical therapy but as of right now she still cannot walk, talk or eat like a normal 5 year old. Thank you everyone for your continued support,” Verhulst wrote.
The family has since received a wheelchair-accessible van which will make Ariel’s new everyday life easier.

The Chiefs elected not to renew Britt Reid’s contract.
