Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid was very critical of the officials following his team’s 20-17 loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.
The reigning Super Bowl champions have fallen to 8-5 on the back of said defeat and felt like they were hit with an unjust penalty toward the end of the game.
Kadarius Toney scored what would have been a go-ahead touchdown with just over a minute to go in the fourth quarter. However, the TD was rightly taken away as the receiver was shown to be way offside ahead of the snap.
Reid was fuming after the game and said the officiating was a bad look for the NFL.
“Usually I get a warning before something like that happens,” he told reporters in his postgame presser. “A bit embarrassing in the National Football League for that to take place. … I didn’t have a protractor out there, but a bit embarrassing.”
The HC has since softened his tone. Speaking to reporters on Monday, he admitted that Toney did not check with down judge Mike Carr before the snap.

“Yeah, so listen, normally he looks over to the sideline and just gets an O-K,” he said. “On that one, he just happened not to, so that would be the coaching point. Just make sure you check with the guy on the side just to see if you’re aligned. I mean, he’s not lining up offsides on purpose. Listen, he was two inches or an inch from being legal.”
Meanwhile, NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport has reported that the NFL is reviewing Reid’s comments, as well as the ones made by Patrick Mahomes.
