The entire city of Chicago is is excited for Justin Fields to start his first game in the NFL this week, but it has nothing to do with Andy Dalton’s play, as head coach Matt Nagy pointed out that he would return to the starting position once he is healed up.
A group of Bears fans on Reddit do not want Dalton to think he is being pushed out by the fan base, so they began donating to show him their appreciation.
“Let’s donate $14 each to thank Andy for giving us his all!” the post on /r/CHIBears says. According to Chicago sports insider Daniel Greenberg, Bears fans have spent the last day donating to Dalton’s charity after he was ruled out of Sunday’s game.
The original post directed fans to donate the money to Dalton’s own charity, the Andy and JJ Dalton Foundation, which is dedicated to providing “support, resources and experiences to seriously ill and physically challenged children and their families.”
Greenberg said he spoke to Dalton’s wife, who was brought to tears over the gesture.
“Truly Andy and I are humbled!” she reportedly said.
“The dude hurt himself playing for us and now is cheering on justin and you can tell it’s genuine,” said user friendpalbuddyguy. “Good to be positive about things instead of always negative!”
