It has been nearly four years since Indianapolis Colts superstar quarterback Andrew Luck shocked the football world by announcing his retirement at the young age of 29. Luck made the decision just weeks before the start of the 2019 season after playing in just six seasons.
Since his stunning announcement, there seems to be rumors every season about a possible return to either the Colts or some other quarterback needy franchise. NFL insider Dov Kleiman has recently reported that the Washington Commanders were the latest team to reach out to Luck in hopes of luring him out of retirement.
You can’t blame Washington for trying as they are in desperate need of a franchise quarterback, something the team has not had for a very long time. Clearly though the Commanders efforts were not good enough as Luck continues to be retired and at this point a return to the NFL seems highly unlikely.
Washington chose not to select a quarterback in this years NFL Draft, so it appears they will head into this upcoming season with unproven 2022 fifth-round pick Sam Howell and veteran journeyman Jacoby Brissett set to battle it out for the starting position.
