Think back to before the 2018 season where the Oakland Raiders wouldn’t give Khalil Mack the contract he wanted, so they traded him to the Chicago Bears instead. Mack proceeded to kill it almost every week and show just how badly the Raiders played the entire scenario.
The Chicago Bears had one of the best defenses in the NFL, which got them a division title and a playoff appearance.
However, the tide recently changed on that trade when voters at the Sloan Sports Analytics Conference at MIT awarded the Raiders for the best move of 2018 when they parted ways with Mack. Seriously.
The Raiders were 6-10 with Mack in 2017 and took even bigger step back with a 4-12 record in 2018, but you have to account for the team trading away WR Amari Cooper to the Dallas Cowboys.
In order for the Raiders to do a complete rebuild, they had to part ways with assets to get more in return in terms of draft picks that will become younger players that cost a whole hell of a lot less than what they would’ve had to pay Cooper and Mack.
Dare we say, Jon Gruden for the win!
