This is the second time in as many weeks that Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Amari Cooper has aired his frustrations over his sagging statistics in the NFL’s highest-scoring offense.
“I really know that, if given the opportunity, I can lead the league in all categories,” Cooper conveyed to reporters on Wednesday, January 5, via The Athletic. “That’s just how I feel about my skill set that I’ve been blessed with. Obviously that’s a goal of mine. But it’s just like basketball. If you want to make a hundred 3s, you got to shoot over a hundred. It’s the same with me.
“If I want to catch a hundred balls, I’ve got to have those targets, and that’s not really in my control. You know what I mean? I just play my part.”
In late December, the four-time Pro Bowl pass-catcher called out the offense for not doing their part when the defense continues to be stout and cause turnovers that aren’t leading to touchdowns.
“I got to be honest, it actually does [bother me],” Cooper said on 105.3 The Fan. “Because, yeah, we’re winning, but the defense is playing a huge part in that. We’re not really as explosive as we should be. We’re not converting a lot of their turnovers into touchdowns. A lot of them are field goals. And I feel like I could be a huge part of that, so that’s what frustrates me.”
Cooper posted a game-high 85 yards and one TD on seven grabs during the Cowboys beatdown of the Washington Football Team. However, he would only catch 3 passes on seven targets for 18 yards in the Cowboys loss to the Arizona Cardinals just last week.

Last week was the 8th time this season that Cooper caught three passes or below. For the year, he has 97 total targets with 63 catches and 786 yards. This coming off a 2020 campaign where he had 92 catches off 130 targets and 1,114 yards.
The Cowboys, who are currently the 4 seed, have a chance to move up to the 2 or 3 with a win against the Philadelphia Eagles. It will be the final time the offense can try and get it together before the start of the postseason.
