The NFL has decided to suspend New Orleans Saints’ running back Alvin Kamara for his involvement in a fight that took place in Las Vegas last year following the Pro Bowl.
Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Kamara was handed down a three-game suspension for the fight. Having reached a plea agreement last month, the 28-year-old Kamara will not face criminal charges.
This means Kamara will miss the team’s Week 1 (vs. Tennessee Titans), Week 2 (at Carolina Panthers) and Week 3 (at Green Bay Packers) contests. He’ll be eligible to return for the Saints’ Week 4 home game against the NFC South rival Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Saints signed former Detroit Lions’ running back Jamaal Williams in free agency following a career year. Williams rushed for 1,066 yards in 2022 and led the NFL in rushing touchdowns with 17.
With Kamara suspended for the first three games, Williams will get a much bigger workload in a new-look New Orleans offense that added ex-Las Vegas Raiders’ quarterback Derek Carr in free agency on a four-year deal.
