During Sunday’s game between the New Orleans Saints and Detroit Lions, one member of the chain crew tried his best to avoid Alvin Kamara coming towards him, but he ended up suffering a serious knee injury.
Nick Piazza is recovering in hospital after sustaining a fractured fibula and a dislocated knee in an accidental collision with Saints star Alvin Kamara.
The gruesome incident happened halfway through the second quarter of the clash between the New Orleans Saints and Detroit Lions, which the Lions won 33-28.
Piazza thanked all the fans who sent home presents and messages, and especially thanked running back Alvin Kamara for signing a football and jersey as part of the Saints care package.
“I really appreciate the messages, care packages, and medical treatment,” Piazza said, via Jeff Duncan of NOLA.com. “And if you see Alvin, please tell him thanks. He signed a football and jersey for me. Very nice.”

Jeff Duncan of NOLA.com noted the Saints sent a care package to Piazza’s house that included a signed Alvin Kamara jersey and football.
Piazza will be off his feet for several weeks. Aside from his care package, Piazza has also received a food order from Saints owner Gayle Benson, and care packages from the Chicago Bears and the game’s officiating crew have been sent his way.
Piazza is scheduled for surgery on Friday in New Orleans, and he will not return to the sidelines again this season.
Piazza will start his recovery process in hopes of getting back on the sideline for the 2024 season.
