Former Chicago Bears running back Tarik Cohen is retiring from football, making a shocking U-turn after starting an NFL return bid this offseason.
Cohen was an electric runner for the Bears, also operating as a receiver and a returner before his career was derailed by injuries.
A first-team All-Pro and Pro Bowler in 2018, the 29-year-old tore multiple knee ligaments in 2020 and then tore his Achilles tendon two years later. It appears he has decided to remain away from the game, as MLFootball is reporting that he is retiring despite signing with the New York Jets, citing his agent.

Tarik Cohen Returned To The NFL Because He Didn’t Like The Way He Looked
Cohen recently spoke on his desire to return, claiming he was inspired to mount a comeback after seeing a picture of himself, having gained some extra weight. He said he nearly threw his phone against the wall after a friend sent him a photo showing rolls of fat on his stomach.
Cohen changed his diet and put in extra workouts, which eventually got him back out on the football field and ultimately landed him a deal with the Jets.

“I definitely feel all the way back,” he told the New York Post. “I’m just trying to show the Jets the explosiveness that I have, the smartness that I’ve gained from being in the league, and lift as I rise — help all the guys in my position group.”
Unfortunately, his comeback attempt is now over. Cohen will finish his career with 1,101 rushing yards, 1,575 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns.
