TMZ Sports reported on Tuesday that the free agent defensive player was arrested on Monday and booked on a felony charge of DUI causing injury.
“Details surrounding the arrest are unclear — we’re working on it — but records show Smith was booked into a Northern California jail at 7:38 PM on Monday night.
The records show Smith’s bail has been set at $50,000. Smith is still in custody.
The 32-year-old pass rusher is due in court for a hearing on the matter on Wednesday, according to the records.”
The Seattle Seahawks’ gamble on oft-troubled defensive end Aldon Smith ended when they released him in August. The 32-year-old was signed by Seattle on April 15 to a one-year deal for the veteran minimum of $1.127 million that included a $137,500 signing bonus.
Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network his release at the time was due to Smith’s “personal issues,” and that while each side tried to make it work “it was just too much. I think at some point there was just not a way forward for both sides. Kind of came to a head early this morning. Smith was not going to be at practice.”
Smith has a well-documented history of incidents related to substance abuse. His career in the league is likely over.
