The Philadelphia Eagles managed to snag a new offensive playmaker for Jalen Hurts before he went to waivers.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Eagles have acquired tight end Albert Okwuegbunam from the Denver Broncos in exchange for a 2025 sixth-round pick. Schefter added that Denver was planning to waive before the Eagles came calling.
Okwuegbunam was viewed by some as a potential breakout candidate in 2022 after the Broncos acquired star quarterback Russell Wilson in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks. But injuries limited Okwuegbunam to just eight games last season, and he only had 10 receptions for 95 yards and a touchdown.
Rookie Greg Dulcich emerged as the Broncos’ lead tight end last season. On top of that, the Broncos acquired ex-New Orleans Saints’ TE Adam Trautman, reuniting the veteran with head coach Sean Payton.
So Okwuegbunam became expendable in Denver, and now he’ll get a fresh start on the reigning NFC Champions. Of course, the No. 1 TE spot is occupied by star Dallas Goedert, so it remains to be seen how much playing time Okwuegbunam will get in Philly’s offense.
