Another chaotic chapter in Halas Hall ensued late Wednesday afternoon: Chicago Bears’ defensive coordinator Alan Williams is stepping down.
Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Williams announced his resignation as the Bears’ DC “effective and immediately”, earlier this morning. In a statement that Rapoport shared, Williams said that he was stepping away to focus on his health and family.
In a stunning development on Wednesday, it was reported that FBI agents had raided Williams’ home and Halas Hall, though other reports indicated that the latter location was not raided.
Former Bears’ star cornerback Charles Tillman, now an FBI agent, was reportedly the one to inform head coach Matt Eberflus, GM Ryan Poles and president Kevin Warren about the raiding of Williams’ home.

Eberflus was hired as the Bears’ new head coach in 2022 following a successful run as the Indianapolis Colts’ defensive coordinator. Williams was the Colts’ defensive backs coach from 2018 to 2021 before Eberflus brought him in to run the defense.
Williams began his NFL coaching career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2001, where he served as a defensive assistant. He was on the Colts’ coaching staff that won Super Bowl 41 in the 2006 season.
