One of the biggest storylines heading into Thursday night’s matchup between the Steelers and Patriots was the two quarterbacks not being able to put up many points for the extremely low over-under total odds.
The game was set at 30.5 points, which is one of the lowest over-unders in recent NFL history.
The two teams have been scoring low all year and both were running with backup quarterbacks. Gamblers are well aware if one bet has a ton of action, then a call is made and now the opposite is going to happen.
The Thursday Night Football matchup took a surprising turn early on as the Patriots came out and scored three touchdowns, along with the Steelers scoring one touchdown and a field goal in the first half. The total was 31 points and it happened before halftime.
Amazon Prime announcer Al Michaels wasted no time bringing this up to gamblers.
“They answered the call. They needed the points and they got ’em,” said Herbstreit about the Steelers.
“And if you liked the over, they’ve also answered the call,” Michaels quipped.

After the commercial break, Michaels continued, saying, “So a lot of people thought, that there’d only be like — some people, consensus — 30 points in this game. Not AWS. They didn’t weigh in on this. But your friendly local bookmaker. Or unfriendly ones.”
Luckily for over bettors, the Patriots got all of their scoring out of the way because they wouldn’t score again in the second half after those three touchdowns. The Steelers scored the last 15 points in the game and still lost.
