Al Michaels has taken a ton of heat for his lack of enthusiasm on calls during “Thursday Night Football,” but this week he proved he can still hit 100 on the radar gun.
During the second quarter of the Cleveland Browns-New York Jets matchup, the legendary broadcaster became extremely annoyed by Browns fans banging on trash cans.
The longtime play-by-play announcer acknowledged it and then took a vicious shot at the Houston Astros.
“Somebody’s pounding on that trash can. I think the Astros must be in town.”
The Houston Astros notoriously banged on trash cans to steal signs and tell batters what pitch was coming in real-time throughout the 2017 season. Many believe that practice helped them win their first World Series in franchise history.
Nobody would’ve known a thing if not for former Astros pitcher Mike Fiers who blew the whistle on them in 2019. Months later, MLB suspended manager A.J. Hinch and general manager Jeff Luhnow – Astros owner Jim Crane fired them both.
