Legendary sports commentator Al Michaels isn’t planning to walk away from the broadcast booth just yet.
Michaels, who turned 79 years of age in November, told Mike Freeman of USA Today that he plans to return to the booth for Amazon Prime Video’s “Thursday Night Football” program.
“I feel good. I feel healthy. I feel fine. I told Amazon that I’d do three years and next year will be three, and I’m definitely doing it. We’ll see after that. I still love this job. I still get a charge out of going into a stadium and watching the best in the world do what they do. I’m still really happy so that’s the big thing.”
Earlier this month, NBC took Michaels off of their upcoming NFL Super Wild Card Weekend broadcasts. Michaels left the network in 2022 and signed a deal with Amazon Prime Video, but NBC brought him back for last year’s AFC Wild Card Round showdown between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Los Angeles Chargers.
Fans have wondered if Michaels might look to walk away after this season, with many observers suggesting that he seemed more bored and uninterested in the games here in 2023 compared to previous years.
Michaels joined NBC in 2006 to take over as the voice for “Sunday Night Football.” During his tenure with NBC, Michaels called five Super Bowls.
