Detroit Lions edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson was well on his way to one of his best seasons ever, and it ended following what he does best, which was a sack on the quarterback.
Hutchinson injured his left leg and was taken off the field by stretcher.
With 11:43 left in the third quarter, the defensive end whipped Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott to the ground for a sack, and his leg appeared to clip teammate Alim McNeill. He knew something was wrong immediately as he removed his mouthpiece and gloves.
After the Week 6 contest, Campbell informed reporters that Hutchinson sustained a broken tibia, which will sideline the 24-year-old for the rest of the season.
The tibia is the larger of two bones in the lower leg and supports most of your weight. He was taken to a hospital in the Dallas area and had emergency surgery.
Hutchinson, the No. 2 pick of the 2022 draft out of Michigan, was having a breakout season and is the heart of the Lions’ defense, which ranked fourth in the NFL against the run entering the game.
The star defensive end had at least one sack in each of the Lions’ first three games.
