The Deebo Samuel situation with the 49ers is coming to a head. The star wide receiver has requested San Francisco trade him, ESPN’s Jeff Darlington reported Wednesday.
Samuel told the ESPN reporter he didn’t want to reveal his reasons for wanting out. Samuel’s trade request comes days after he took everything 49ers-related off his social media pages.
In the immediate aftermath, a trade suitor has already emerged for his services: The Houston Texans.
Samuel, who earned a first-team All-Pro selection for his performance in the 2021 season, is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent in ’23. Last season, he tallied 77 receptions for 1,405 yards and six touchdowns, all the while rushing for 365 yards and eight more scores on the ground.
With Samuel’s high-value production from last season, he could be in the ballpark for a record-breaking deal, but likely with a new team.
