A blockbuster trade proposal has the Cleveland Browns sending Amari Cooper to a rebuilding rival team over in the AFC.
Cooper has been the Browns’ top pass-catcher since coming over via trade with the Dallas Cowboys in 2022. But with Cooper entering the final year of his contract, and with the Browns up against the cap, there’s a case to be made that they’re better off trading the soon-to-be 30-year-old this offseason.
Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox outlined a dream trade scenario for all 32 NFL teams this offseason. For the New England Patriots’ entry, Knox proposed the idea of the AFC East club making a move for the five-time Pro Bowler:
“There’s a good chance New England will have a new quarterback in 2024. Whether the Patriots make a play for a free agent like Kirk Cousins or Baker Mayfield or take a signal-caller with the third overall pick, they should be willing to move on from Mac Jones.
And even if the Patriots still believe in Jones, they need receiver help. New England could use the No. 3 pick on a wideout like Ohio State’s Marvin Harrison Jr. and still use a veteran like Cooper opposite him.
Cooper is a savvy route-runner who has shown he can thrive with virtually any signal-caller. He played with four different QBs in 2023 and still finished the year with 1,250 yards and five touchdowns.”
If there’s one team that has to upgrade its receiving core this offseason, it’s the Patriots. They haven’t had a 1,000-yard receiver since Julian Edelman in 2019, and 2023 sixth-round pick Demario Douglas led the team in receiving with just 561 yards.

The Patriots have the No. 3 pick in this year’s draft and are expected to take a quarterback, likely whoever remains between North Carolina’s Drake Maye and LSU’s Jayden Daniels. USC’s Caleb Williams will likely go first overall to the Chicago Bears.
Regardless of what New England does at QB, they have to upgrade their receiving core. And Knox’s idea of trading for Cooper makes perfect sense if the Browns end up making him available.
