With the first overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, the majority of fans and analysts expect the Chicago Bears to trade quarterback Justin Fields and select take USC star Caleb Williams.
One team that bears watching in a potential trade for Fields? The Pittsburgh Steelers, judging by comments made by ESPN’s Adam Schefter during Monday’s appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show.”
Speaking on the program, Schefter reported that the Steelers are going to bring in quarterback competition for Kenny Pickett. The NFL insider also stated that Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin happens to be “a big fan of” Fields:
The Steelers made the postseason in 2023 with a 10-7 record despite using three quarterbacks in Pickett, Mitch Trubisky and Mason Rudolph. Those three combined for just 13 touchdowns against nine interceptions in the regular season, averaging a mere 201.2 passing yards per contest.
Fields had his best season yet as a pro in 2023, completing 61.4 percent of pass attempts for 2,562 yards and 16 touchdowns against nine interceptions to go along with 657 rushing yards in 13 games.
With a top-10 defense and a nice set of playmakers in George Pickens, Diontae Johnson, Najee Harris and Jaylen Warren, the Steelers truly are just one quarterback away from emerging as a super Bowl contender.
