The Carolina Panthers made a big splash in free agency when they signed former Minnesota Vikings wideout Adam Thielen to a three-year contract worth $25 million.
Minnesota released the fan favorite in Thielen before the start of free agency last week. The 32-year-old was not on the market for too long, and he immediately slots in as the top receiver on Carolina’s depth chart.
Unsurprisingly, there was a good amount of interest in Thielen before he wound up signing with Carolina. During an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” on Monday, Thielen named the Dallas Cowboys and Denver Broncos as two clubs who spoke to him after his release from the Vikings.
The Cowboys came into the offseason in desperate need of a quality No. 2 to complement superstar CeeDee Lamb, and they completed a trade for Brandin Cooks with the Houston Texans over the weekend.
As for the Broncos, top wideouts Jerry Jeudy and Courtland Sutton have frequently popped up in trade speculation. If Denver were to trade either, GM George Paton would have to move quickly in adding a new play-making weapon for Russell Wilson.
The Panthers sent top wideout D.J. Moore to the Chicago Bears as part of the package for the first overall pick in next month’s draft. Though Thielen hasn’t hit the 1,000-yard mark since 2018, he Minnesota State product is consistently good for 60-plus catches and over 700 receiving yards per year.

Thielen was never going to be the go-to-guy again in Minnesota following the arrival of Justin Jefferson. Now he’s in position to take over as Carolina’s new WR1 with Moore in Chicago.
