A major update has emerged on Bill Belichick’s contract negotiations with the Atlanta Falcons.
On ESPN, NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that Belichick met with several members of the Falcons’ organization on Friday (h/t Mike Kadlick of WEEI). Schefter added that Belichick is the main focus on Atlanta’s coaching staff, with both parties on a “fact-finding mission.”
Last week, Belichick and New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft held a press conference to formally announce that the legendary head coach was leaving after 24 years. Belichick guided the Patriots to 17 division titles, nine AFC Championships and six Super Bowl victories in his tenure with the organization.
The Falcons fired head coach Arthur Smith following a third straight 7-10 finish. The team hasn’t made the postseason since 2017, which also marks the franchise’s last winning season.
With the Las Vegas Raiders making Antonio Pierce their full-time head coach, six head coaching vacancies remain.
