The Houston Texans have been rumored to be taking a quarterback in the NFL draft since they began the 2022 season. Now that we are just weeks away, it appears that way of thinking is not exactly set in stone.
New coach DeMeco Ryans has the right approach, but a lot will be determined by which player the team drafts with the second pick.
ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter is now reporting that the Texans are not a lock at taking a QB with the No. 2 overall draft pick.
The Houston Texans have won 11 games since the start of the 2020 season. That’s the least of all 32 NFL teams during that span. The biggest issue has been the quarterback position. They had a franchise QB in Deshaun Watson, but he got caught up in a major sex scandal with massage therapists and demanded a trade that had him sitting out the 2020 season. He is gone and the team is now looking for their next star signal caller after trading the previous one to the Cleveland Browns.
This spring, the Texans’ fortune could change. They own the No. 2 pick in this month’s NFL Draft and are widely expected to land one of the top quarterbacks in the 2023 class.
It could be C.J. Stroud, Bryce Young, or another prospect. So barring a trade back, it’s likely one of those two quarterbacks will end up in Houston come April 27 – Day 1 of the NFL Draft.
