The Broncos’ season is off to such a rough start that they’ve become the subject of a wild rumor.
Pat McAfee claimed the Denver Broncos might consider making a change as defensive coordinator and bringing in Rex Ryan as their new DC. That is a curious rumor as Denver’s defense just turned in its best performance of the season in a 19-8 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 6.
Here’s how McAfee put it:
“There’s rumblings right now, rumors, rumors … the Broncos might be making a change at DC, allegedly,” McAfee said.
“I don’t know when… [but it may be] Rex Ryan potentially.”
However, NFL reporter, Adam Schefter, joined the show and denied that Ryan will leave ESPN for Denver midseason.
“Rex is not going to Denver right now,” Schefter said. “You know who my source is there? Rex. We were talking about it [Sunday] as we were watching the games.”

Ryan was a candidate for the job in the offseason, but the team ended up hiring Vance Joseph instead.
Earlier this season, Ryan hinted that the Broncos did not meet his contract demands when he interviewed for the DC job during the offseason. “[M]aybe they should have ponied up a little bit, you know what I’m saying?” Ryan said
Through six games, though, Denver’s defense has struggled mightily. The Broncos, who surrendered 70 points to the Dolphins in Week 3, rank dead last among the NFL’s 32 teams in points and yards allowed.
It’s very apparent that the Broncos will eventually move on from Joseph, and when that happens, Ryan will obviously be a name to keep an eye on.
