Deshaun Watson is still trying to navigate his way through some serious legal troubles, so there’s still no certainty as to whether or not he’ll even play in the 2021 NFL season. But if he does — or whenever he returns — there will be one team in particular who should be ready to pounce.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the one team that is in better position than anyone else to make a move for Deshaun Watson is the Philadelphia Eagles. And it would make sense for them to make a move for a controversial quarterback, after they were able to make it work with Michael Vick a decade earlier.
Schefter joined the John Kincade Show on 97.5 The Fanatic in Philadelphia. And when he was asked about the possibility of a Deshaun Watson trade, here’s what he had to say:
“The Eagles are more equipped to make a run at DeShaun Watson than any other team out there,” Schefter told the morning show. “And if you put DeShaun Watson on the Philadelphia Eagles they become a Super Bowl contender right away.”
With regards to his current legal issues, Schefter said, “Im operating under the assumption this will be settled. And when he is deemed able to play, the Philadelphia Eagles will be waiting.”
He also commented on the Texans’ current perspective on the situation, saying he believes the Texans are waiting to get more clarity before dealing the disgruntled quarterback.
“Remember! The start of this offseason was DeShaun Watson telling the Texans he didn’t want to be there anymore. But the Texans wont sell him at 25%. THey’re going to wait to get full value.”

As for the Aaron Rodgers situation, that’s a different story. Schefter just doesn’t see ending up in Philly for a few reasons. For starters, he doesn’t believe the Packers will look to trade him in the first place. And even if they had to move him, he doesn’t see them moving the MVP quarterback to a team that they compete against in the NFC.
Here’s how he broke it down:
“I don’t think the Green Bay Packers are looking to trade Aaron Rodgers, even though it may get to the point where they have no choice but that they have to. And if the Green Bay Packers ever got to the point where they were going to trade Aaron Rodgers, it’s hard for me to see them trading him in the conferece to a team that, despite their struggles last year, is generally a good team and a competitive team. I don’t think they want to go and trade Aaron Rodgers to a team that’s been a strong team in the NFC and have to increase the chances that they would have to play him.”
But he didn’t entirely shut down the idea, saying that just like with Deshaun Watson, if Aaron Rodgers were to become available, the Eagles would once again be in the best shape to make a run at the quaterback. And if that offer were too good to turn down, who’s to say the Packers woudln’t accept?
“Just like the Eagles have more ammunition than any team in football to go be as aggressive as they want for Deshaun Watson, they can do the same thing for Aaron Rodgers…”
One could only imagine the type of package it would take for the Eagles to get Aaron Rodgers from the Packers…
But if it did happen, or if the Eagles got Deshaun Watson, Schefter said he fully beieves the Eagles become legitimate Super Bowl contenders.
Stay tuned. This could get interesting.
