Could the Houston Texans really be thinking about not selecting a quarterback with the No. 2 pick in the NFL Draft? One team that is hoping that is the case is in the same division as them.
The Indianapolis Colts might have a number of quarterbacks to choose from with the No. 4 overall pick of the 2023 NFL draft. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on NFL Live that the Colts may get to pick from Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud, Florida’s Anthony Richardson, and Kentucky’s Will Levis with only Alabama’s Bryce Young off the board.
“I think Indianapolis thinks there’s a real chance right now that they can sit right where they are at four and get potentially the second quarterback in this draft,” he said. “There’s a chance we might not see a quarterback go at two or even three, and there might not be a team that trades up because the value in that isn’t what we thought it would be.”
Additionally, Schefter seems certain that no one will trade up to No. 3 because the Texans aren’t looking at quarterbacks at No. 2.
“These teams right now seem willing to wait, they seem willing to wait,” he said. “I don’t think we’re going to see a quarterback go at two, and I think all the teams talking about trading up to three know that. So this great quarterback rush that we’ve all been expecting might start a little bit later.”
For weeks, it has been widely assumed that Young and Stroud will go with the first two picks. Both the Carolina Panthers and Houston Texans need franchise quarterbacks, and the former even traded up with the Chicago Bears to land the first choice.

The Arizona Cardinals already have a QB so they won’t be taking one with the No. 3 draft pick. They could very well trade that pick to another QB-starved team. However, Schefter’s report provides some hope for Indianapolis fans hoping there will be more of an element of choice available with that selection.
The Colts are tired of having stopgaps at quarterback since Andrew Luck retired in Matt Ryan, Carson Wentz, Philip Rivers, and Jacoby Brissett. They are finally looking to find their guy to build around and return to the team that they once were.
The Panthers seem to be leaning toward taking Bryce Young, as the Alabama quarterback has canceled all his other visits.
Stroud, who was a Heisman Trophy finalist over the past two seasons, being available could be a game-changer for Indianapolis as it looks to establish itself as a contender in the AFC South.
