Kansas City Chiefs fans, calm down. Star Defensive Tackle Chris Jones was not traded, but a reported trade today was related to him.
As Jones continues his holdout for a bigger contract, NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported a trade by Kansas City, who sent a 6th round pick to the Las Vegas Raiders for Defensive Tackle Neil Farrell, who is insurance in case the Jones’ holdout becomes extended.
Though the trade did not involve Jones it didn’t stop Kansas City fans from freaking out over the perceived trade.

For starters, Jones is not traded. This is one reason to read the complete article and not glimpse at it. That said, the trade will assure the Chiefs have a body on the Defensive Line, which has been a long time weakness for the AFC juggernaut.
Jones, 29, is looking to sign a long term extension that will likely be the last of his career. The Chiefs would like him to return, but as Jones wants a bigger contract, this holdout is likely to extend into the season. The Chiefs would go on to put Jones on the Did Not Report list.
Kansas City may need to get him back on the field quickly, as they face the Detroit Lions and their potent offense on opening day. A team that’s negative on defense is going to need every man they have available.
