Tom Brady will be 42 years old when the New England Patriots kick off the 2019 NFL season. Most quarterbacks his age would’ve been out of the league already, but Brady is coming off his sixth Super Bowl victory.
The six-time Super Bowl champion and four-time Super Bowl MVP is arguably the best QB of all time, but that didn’t mean anything to one young wide receiver who decided to turn down a contract with the reigning Super Bowl champs.
Adam Humphries told The Athletic, “Obviously he’s the G.O.A.T. That’s that simple,” speaking of Brady. “But there’s so much that factors into that decision. It was a four-year deal. Who knows how many (years) he’s got left? There’s a lot that goes into that.”
The 25-year-old went undrafted out of Clemson, then earned himself a contract out of mini-camp with the Tampa Buccaneers. He did enough to make himself one of the Patriots’ biggest offseason pursuits. Unfortunately for the Patriots, he decided to sign a four-year deal for less money than the Patriots offered him. He had no interest in playing with Brady, only to be stuck there after he retires with no other QB in place to pick up the pieces.
He also pointed out quality of life and state taxes as a reason he decided to head to Tennessee. Obviously winning a ring isn’t a top priority for Humphries.
