With a lost season quickly wrapping up, the New York Jets are reportedly planning to go big game hunting for superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers this offseason.
Rodgers suffered a torn Achilles just minutes into his Jets debut against the Buffalo Bills back in Week 1. The four-time league MVP had hoped to return at some point this season, but that won’t be the case with the Jets out of postseason contention.
According to ESPN’s Rich Cimini, Rodgers’ “watch list” includes old friend and former Green Bay Packers teammate Davante Adams. Cimini added that the Jets seem ready to “pursue” the Las Vegas Raiders’ superstar:
“Players on the Rodgers 2024 watch list include Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams, who caught 68 touchdowns from Rodgers during their years together in Green Bay. This would be a trade with significant compensation because Adams, who turns 31 on Sunday, is under contract for 2024 ($17 million guaranteed). The Jets are reportedly prepared to pursue him.”
The Raiders were coming off a playoff appearance in 2021 when they acquired Adams from the Packers in a 2022 blockbuster trade. Though Adams continues to put up strong numbers, the Raiders are nowhere near contention, so it would make sense to unload his hefty contract this offseason.
Adams has 84 receptions for 968 yards and five touchdowns this season.
