Aaron Rodgers turned down the opportunity to play for a longtime NFL powerhouse in favor of the New York Jets, according to a report.
Ahead of the 2023 NFL Draft in April, the Green Bay Packers traded the longtime franchise star and four-time league MVP to the Jets. Rodgers had announced weeks earlier on “The Pat McAfee Show” that he was joining the Jets, and that the two teams just had to work out trade compensation.
It’s well-known just how much Rodgers wanted to join the Jets. Turns out, so much so that he passed on the opportunity to play for the NFL’s greatest head coach of all-time.
On a recent edition of “The Carton Show” (h/t Paul A. Asden Jr. of Heavy.com), Craig Carton of WFAN and FS1 reported that Rodgers nixed a trade to the Jets’ archrivals, the New England Patriots:
“The New England Patriots made an offer to the Green Bay Packers to get Aaron Rodgers. When Aaron Rodgers heard it, his agent said no, we ain’t playing for New England, we want to be a Jet.
The Patriots made an offer for Aaron Rodgers, and he refused to play for New England.”
Chalk this up as a rare win for the Jets in their rivalry with the Patriots.

The Patriots were the NFL’s model organization from 2001 to 2019, winning nine AFC Championships and six Super Bowls. The Jets, on the other hand, haven’t been a playoff team since the 2010 season.
Usually, star players are keen on joining a perennial winner (which the Patriots were) over a longtime losing franchise. But fortunately for the Jets, the future Hall of Famer wanted to finish his career in Gotham instead of in the chilling Foxborough winters.
