New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers has opened up on the emotions he went through in the moments after tearing his Achilles on his debut for the team last year.
Rodgers’ arrival in New York came with much fanfare, giving fans hope of finally making the playoffs for the first time since 2010 and possibly even winning a Super Bowl. However, all of that was short-lived as he suffered an Achilles injury on his first drive.
The veteran QB has admitted that he thought his career was over after the unfortunate incident and described it as one of the most heartbreaking moments of his life.
“I had this incredible offseason experience in a new city, a new town, with new teammates, a new organization, an owner for the first time, and really falling back in love with the game that I first fell in love with when I was 5 years old. It was absolutely beautiful and special and deep and rich and yummy, and just incredible,” he said on the ‘I Can Fly’ podcast.
“And then, one of the most heartbreaking nights of my life, when I played four plays. Talk about an ego death,” he said. “I was really thinking, ‘This is it. You don’t come back from this injury.‘”

Will Aaron Rodgers Be Able To Return To His Best After Such A Devastating Injury?
While he teased what would have been an unprecedented return before the end of the season, with the Jets also opening a practice window for him, Rodgers spent the rest of the term on the fringes. There will still be questions over whether he could continue to play at a high level moving forward, given that he’s already 40 years old.
The Jets remain confident in Rodgers’ ability to lead them to success in 2024 and are keen on giving him everything he needs to set them on a run to the postseason. They have made several key acquisitions, including offensive tackles Tyron Williams and Morgan Moses, as well as wide receiver Mike Williams and linebacker Hasson Reddick.
