New York Jets’ quarterback Aaron Rodgers was initially ruled out for the season three weeks ago after suffering a torn Achilles in Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills.
A torn Achilles is almost always a season-ending injury for football players. But in his latest appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” (h/t Matt Audilet of Athlon Sports), the four-time league MVP and future Hall of Famer expressed confidence that he’ll be able to pull off a miracle recovery and return this season:
“There’s nothing normal about how I’m attacking this rehab. There is common practices about six weeks in a boot, and I was in a shoe in like 13 days.
“This is just my mindset. I believe in the power of intention. I believe in prayer. I believe in mental status and power of will. I believe in making room for the miraculous to happen…Sometime miracles are just doing things that no one thought was possible.”
As well, Rodgers told NBC Sports’ Melissa Stark that his plan is to “aggressively” rehab and permanently return to the Jets after their Week 7 bye. Not only that, but Stark revealed that Rodgers’ goal is to play again this season.
Ex-Los Angeles Ram and current Minnesota Vikings running back Cam Akers should be inspiration for Rodgers. Akers tore his Achilles tendon in July 2021 and was expected to miss the entire year, but he returned five months later and helped the Rams to a Super Bowl 56 championship.

Rodgers will need an even quicker and more miraculous recovery than Akers if he’s to return this season. At 1-3, the struggling Jets certainly don’t look like a team that can realistically compete for a playoff spot with Zach Wilson as their quarterback.
Only time will tell if Rodgers can defy all odds and make an all-time comeback before the season concludes. For now, the Jets have to find a way to start winning games to stay in the postseason race.
