The New York Jets drafted Zach Wilson at No. 2 overall in 2021 to be the team’s franchise quarterback. By the end of his second season, it was clear he was not the guy to run the franchise.
Through his first two seasons, Wilson has thrown more interceptions than touchdowns and was never able to earn the respect of his teammates which was shown as they openly campaigned for the team to trade for Aaron Rodgers this offseason.
Rodgers is now in town after a blockbuster trade with the Green Bay Packers and now he is issuing challenges to Zach Wilson, but it isn’t football related.
Offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett revealed the details during a conversation with NFL Insider Peter Schrager.
“We [a bunch of Jets coaches and Aaron Rodgers] had a little barbeque and we had this long conversation going through this whole process of movies,” Hackett explained on “The Season with Peter Schrager.”
“We’ve got Zach Wilson [and] Tim Boyle and they’re like what movies are those? You should have seen the list that we built for their summer… you know how there used to be a summer reading program? We created a summer movie list. So we ended up setting it up by genre. I mean there were so many things that they hadn’t seen.
The movies that like blew my mind, I mean it was funny because my son was there [15 years old] and he had never seen “The Terminator.” They looked at me and they’re like Arnold Schwarzenegger? What has he been in? Because they look at him and he was the governor of California. You forget these guys are so young. Oh my gosh, we need a major education.”
Drafted second overall out of Brigham Young University just two years ago, Wilson’s career has never taken off. Wilson tumbled down the depth chart as his second season progressed, falling behind Mike White and Joe Flacco.

Now with the Jets making it clear that their future at the position lies elsewhere, Wilson’s days with the franchise seem numbered unless he can learn a lot sitting behind Aaron Rodgers.
Wilson has an 8-14 record with the Jets.
