Aaron Rodgers has been unveiled as a New York Jets player following news of the team agreeing a trade with the Green Bay Packers on Monday.
The Jets and Packers deliberated uncomfortably long, taking several weeks to get the deal over the line despite all parties wanting the same result. Well, NY fans can breathe easy now. Rodgers is finally, and officially, a Jets player. And it appears it might not be for a single season either.
There were concerns over the quarterback possibly calling it quits after a solitary campaign. But, speaking to reporters in a press conference on Wednesday, the former Packers star seemed to indicate he’s going to be around a bit longer, having acknowledged that his new team gave up substantial assets to get him.
The Jets front office likely knew about this as they must have discussed it with the veteran QB, so it shouldn’t have come across as a new development. But fans will be pleased to learn that it is unlikely to be a one-and-done deal, though the player did not publicly commit to playing for more than a year.
Zach Wilson is unlikely to share the same feelings, though Rodgers has revealed they already have a great relationship and he’s planning to make the youngster’s life “heaven off the field.”
Sitting behind Rodgers for a year should be bearable for a QB looking to learn as much as he can from an NFL legend. Doing it for two or three years… not so great. Just ask Jordan Love.
