The Aaron Rodgers trade between the Green Bay Packers and New York Jets is finally over the line, with news of the deal breaking on Monday afternoon.
The quarterback is set to play with a different team for the first time since getting drafted in 2008, and the shade of green he wears in 2023 will be a different one than he’s used to. According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, Rodgers will also be wearing a different jersey number.
Rodgers wore the No. 12 with the Packers but Schefter has reported that he will go back to the No. 8 jersey he wore for the California Golden Bears. The 39-year-old has gotten the green light from Joe Namath, yet he will be wearing an old but familiar digit now that his career is set for a turn.
“Although Hall-of-Fame QB Joe Namath gave Aaron Rodgers his blessing to wear No. 12, the new Jets‘ QB is expected to wear No. 8 — the number he wore in college at Cal,” Schefter wrote in a tweet after breaking the news.

Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner also posted a photo of Rodgers in a California No. 8 jersey, making it his profile pic too.
Talks are said to have gone cold between the teams due to frustrations from both sides after extensive negotiations. They returned to the table on Monday to iron out what’s admittedly a pretty reasonable deal.
