A major update has emerged on New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers and his recovery from a torn Achilles.
According to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Rodgers is likely to receive clearance to play this upcoming week. The four-time league MVP is recovering from the Achilles tear that he suffered in the opening minutes of Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills:
“After recently being cleared to practice, New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers is likely to be medically cleared to play this week upcoming, league sources told ESPN.
But being medically cleared doesn’t necessarily mean that Rodgers automatically will take the field on Christmas Eve against the Washington Commanders.
Rodgers and the Jets organization still need to get together to discuss if returning next Sunday is the next step they want to take. Much could depend on the outcome of the Jets’ Week 15 game Sunday in Miami against the Miami Dolphins and if New York still has any chance — even infinitesimal — of making the postseason.”
At 5-8, the Jets face extremely long odds of making the postseason. They would certainly have to win out and get plenty of help, with the Cleveland Browns (8-5), Cincinnati Bengals (8-6), Indianapolis Colts (8-6), Houston Texans (7-6), Denver Broncos (7-7), Buffalo Bills (7-6) and Pittsburgh Steelers (7-7) all in the playoff race as well.
Rodgers was acquired in a blockbuster trade with the Green Bay Packers ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft. His arrival brought a new wave of excitement to a long-suffering Jets fanbase, but the team has struggled tremendously in his absence this year.
