Veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers made some revelations regarding his possible return this season, as well as his long-term future with the New York Jets.
Rodgers remains sidelined as he works his way back from an Achilles injury, though he has been practicing, but poured cold water on the suggestions that he could make a comeback in 2023.
The 40-year-old was a guest on ‘The Pat McAfee Show’ this Tuesday, where he insisted that he is not pushing for a quick return, despite being greenlit for practice.
“If I was 100% today, I’d definitely be pushing to play,” he explained. “But the fact is, I’m not. I’ve been working hard to get closer … I’m still 14 weeks tomorrow from my surgery. And being medically cleared as 100% healed is not realistic at 14 weeks.”
It’s hard to believe that Rodgers would not at least try to get back on the field had the Jets not been eliminated from playoff contention. That they have nothing more to play for bodes well for him as it’s saved him from potentially embarrassing himself, or worse, aggravating his injury.
Rodgers also disclosed that he doesn’t see next season as his last as he wanted to give the Jets at least two terms before considering retirement.

“I wanted at least two years,” he pointed out. “I feel like this year is kind of a lost year now that I only played a couple snaps and wasn’t able to go out there and prove what I’m capable of and see what we’re capable of as a team. I don’t think next year will be my last year.”
