Aaron Rodgers is being called out for trying to pass the hat for money to fund a new business venture.
Chris Smith of Sports Business Journal has revealed that the Online Sports Database, a sports information platform founded by the New York Jets quarterback, is set to launch a crowdfunding campaign in an effort to raise $1.235 million.
The platform’s co-founder and CEO Ryan Rottman told Smith that the idea was inspired by the Packers’ proclivity for generating cash by selling stock that isn’t actually stock.
“One thing that struck us . . . was the loyalty the fans had in the community, the passion they had for the team, because a lot of them were owners,” Rottman said. “We were all so taken aback by how much that actually built the community around the team, and doing this bridge [round] was something we wanted to use to create within OSDB a community of likeminded sports fans.”
ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio has pointed out that persons who contribute wouldn’t be owners but they’d simply be donors, “unless the hope is that Aaron Rodgers fans will blindly give their money to him and then, once they have, they’ll feel compelled to use the service in order to justify the money that they paid.”
While some are tweeting in defense of Rodgers, he’s getting destroyed on the platform.

Rodgers is set to make over $100 million from the Jets over the next two seasons, provided he sticks around for their 2024 campaign, so he should have little difficulty funding said venture on his own.
Why should anyone else fork out their hard-earned money for a millionaire’s project when there’s nothing to be gained from it?
