It appears that Aaron Rodgers might be playing football in 2023, but it will be for the New York Jets.
The New York Jets have had conversations with the Green Bay Packers and with quarterback Aaron Rodgers this week regarding a potential trade of the four-time MVP to the Jets, according to multiple reports.
On Wednesday, ESPN’s Rich Cimini laid out what he thought a blockbuster package for Rodgers might look like should the trade go down.
“IF trade happens, I say #Jets give up 2023 2nd rounder + conditional 2024 3rd rounder (can improve based on indiv/team performance),” Cimini predicted. “Don’t see them trading ’23 1st rounder (13th). Comp could be tied to how much contract they take on.”
Rodgers still has not made any announcements about what he intends to do this coming season. He could still very well retire or go back to Green Bay. If he stays, the Packers will welcome him back. If he leaves, it appears he is headed to New York and Joran Love can finally get his career going.
If the Jets are speaking directly with Rodgers, they and he would have had to secure the Packers’ permission, as he is still under contract with Green Bay. Rodgers is under contract through 2024 for $108.8 million.
