Aaron Rodgers certainly appears to be getting closer to a return to the field.
The 39-year-old suffered a torn Achilles just minutes into his Jets’ debut in Week 1 against the Buffalo Bills. Rodgers was initially ruled out for the season, but the four-time league MVP has expressed confidence that he’ll beat the recovery timeline and return to the field this year.
Ahead of the Jets’ Monday night home game against the Los Angeles Chargers, ESPN’s Rich Cimini posted videos of Rodgers throwing some beautiful deep balls at MetLife Stadium:

A torn Achilles is almost always a season-ending injury for a professional athlete. But Minnesota Vikings running back Cam Akers can serve as inspiration for Rodgers, having beaten the recovery timeline while he was with the Los Angeles Rams back in 2021.
Akers tore his Achilles tendon in July 2021 and was expected to miss the entire year, but he wound up returning in the club’s Week 18 game against the San Francisco 49ers. Akers was also active for the Rams’ four postseason games and helped them to a Super Bowl 56 championship.
The Jets went on to beat Buffalo in Week 1 following Rodgers’ injury, only to lose their next three games. However, Robert Saleh’s group has rallied with three straight victories to move above .500.
With a win over the Chargers on Monday night, the Jets will find themselves in a four-way tie for each of the AFC’s three wild card spots.
