A blockbuster trade proposal has the Baltimore Ravens landing one of the game’s top running backs to help Lamar Jackson and the offense.
The Ravens have had a busy offseason, signing veteran wideouts Odell Beckham Jr. and Nelson Agholor in free agency. Then with their first-round selection (22nd overall), the Ravens drafted speedy Boston College wideout Zay Flowers.
J.K. Dobbins, Gus Edwards and Justice Hill, all reliable options, headline Baltimore’s running back depth chart. But at NFL Analysis Network, Kenneth Teape proposed an intriguing trade idea that would see Baltimore land Aaron Jones from the Green Bay Packers:
“What could a trade between the Ravens and Packers look like? Eric DeCosta could offer a second and fifth-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft…
With A.J. Dillon in the fold, the Packers could be comfortable moving on from Jones and giving Dillon an expanded role in the backfield. In Baltimore, he would share the backfield with Dobbins and Edwards but provide the team with a more than capable lead dog.
Dobbins has excellent production but has only one career game in which he topped 15 carries. Looking to keep his workload in check, the Ravens would benefit from adding a player of Jones’ caliber who is versatile enough to handle whatever role is asked of him.”
On one hand, just about any running back can find success in Baltimore’s rush-heavy offense. Jackson himself has crossed 1,000 yards rushing (2019 and 2020), for starters.
But on the other hand, Jones has been a top-10 running back over the past four seasons. The 2020 Pro Bowler has crossed 1,000 yards rushing in three of the past four seasons (he had 799 in 15 games in the 2021 campaign).

Since Jackson’s 2018 rookie season, the Ravens haven’t had a running back as dominant and productive as Jones. So in many ways, a trade for the 28-year-old makes good sense for John Harbaugh and company.
Green Bay already commenced a rebuild by trading away star quarterback Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets. As Teape pointed out, a Jones trade openes the door for A.J. Dillon to enjoy an increased workload.
