Los Angeles Rams superstar defensive tackle Aaron Donald couldn’t help but poke fun at the archrival San Francisco 49ers following their heartbreaking loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 58.
The 49ers lost 25-22 to the defending champions in overtime, with quarterback Patrick Mahomes throwing the game-winning touchdown to wide receiver Mecole Hardman. With that, the Chiefs secured the first NFL repeat since the 2003 and ’04 New England Patriots.
On his Instagram story, Donald ruthlessly trolled the 49ers by reminding them that he owns what they just missed out on: A shiny championship ring.
No team has gone through more postseason heartbreak over the past 12 years than San Francisco. They’ve lost four NFC Championship Games (2011, 2013, 2021 and 2022) and three Super Bowls (Super Bowl 47, Super Bowl 54 and Super bowl 58).
Two of those Super Bowl losses came courtesy of Mahomes and the Chiefs, who rallied from 10-point deficits in both contests to prevent the 49ers from winning Lombardi Trophy No. 6.
Donald checked off the final box on his Hall of Fame résumé two years ago when he led the Rams to a Super Bowl 56 championship over the Cincinnati Bengals. Meanwhile, the 49ers search for that elusive sixth Super Bowl goes on.
