There aren’t any indications that Aaron Donald and the Los Angeles Rams want to split, but this hasn’t prevented trade speculation surrounding the superstar defensive tackle.
Donald’s hometown team, the Pittsburgh Steelers, have been mentioned as a possible landing spot for the three-time Defensive Player of the Year. Donald was born in the Steel City and played college football for the Pittsburgh Panthers before the Rams drafted him 13th overall in 2014.
Speaking to the media ahead of the Rams’ Week 7 home game against the Steelers, Donald was asked about possibly ending his career with the Steelers. But the future Hall of Famer was quick to shut it down, via Noah Strackbein of All Steelers From Sports Illustrated’s FanNation site.
“Not really, no,” Donald said. “I never thought of it. I never thought about it.”
Donald contemplated retirement after the Rams defeated the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl 57, but he ultimately agreed to a new three-year deal worth $95 million. The 32-year-old remains one of the game’s premier defensive players, with 2.5 sacks and eight tackles for a loss.
The Rams fell to the Steelers on Sunday and dropped to 3-4 on the year. Despite fielding a losing record, the Rams are just half a game out of the NFC’s final wild card spot. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers currently hold that spot with a 3-3 record.
