Former NFL star AJ Hawk made a notable name for himself as a linebacker for the Green Bay Packers and certainly had his fair share of injuries.
Hawk is now suffering injuries long after retirement.
The NFL and Pat McAfee Show legend showed up today rocking large black glasses with a bandage underneath covering his left eye after suffering a freak accident.
Hawk told the Pat McAfee Show his son scratched off a chunk of his cornea as the former Green Bay Packers linebacker went to pick him up the day prior.
“I was hoping you guys might not notice, but I figured it might be a bit of a distraction today,” Hawk joked. “Not a long story. I bent down to pick up Axel, he threw his arms up so fast his thumb went about six inches deep into my eyeball. And his nail chopped off part of my eye, I guess.
“I tried to fight through it, tried to figure out. I dropped my kids off at school and then went to the doctor and he said, ‘A third of your cornea is gone, there’s a big divot out of there.’”
Hawk did say that he hopes to only be wearing the patch for a day, and has been told by his doctor that the cornea will fully regrow. Hopefully, the big man is not dealing with much pain to such a sensitive area.
