Well, this is quite shocking.
The Cincinnati Bengals did not entertain trade inquiries for AJ Green prior to Tuesday’s deadline, which means they plan to have him be with the team for years to come. As a shock to everybody, not only does the team want him to stick around, Green wants long-term financial security and wants to remain in Cincinnati.
Green told Paul Dehner Jr. of The Athletic on Wednesday that his representatives and the Bengals have resumed contract negotiations.
Green wants nothing to do with the franchise tag.
No NFL player likes the franchise tag, and even though Green can still produce on the field, the 31-year-old has sustained a slew of injuries in recent years. Given his age, this is likely his final chance to secure a huge pay day before he hangs up his cleats for good.
