Winning a Super Bowl is a tough task, and even some of the best teams throughout the season end up not winning the big game. The biggest part to a team making a run to a Super Bowl appearance is their Quarterback. Without a good QB it is very hard to win a championship, since it makes your margin for error extremely small.
There are so many QBs in the league currently that have a chance to win a Super Bowl, but some of them will never end up doing it.
Here are 5 QBs that will win a Super Bowl before they retire, and 5 that won’t:
WILL – Josh Allen
If it wasn’t for Patrick Mahomes, I think Allen would have a championship by now. Mahomes-Allen feels eerily like Brady-Manning, in the sense that Mahomes/Brady will overshadow Allen/Manning because they keep winning championships and beats the other in the playoffs despite. But like Manning, there will be one or two years where Allen beats Mahomes and will have a chance to capitalize on it. The Bills are a well-run team and will be competitive every year with Allen under center, just because he’s so gifted. He will get one in due time.
WON’T – Dak Prescott
Sorry Cowboys fans, I don’t have much confidence in Dak Prescott leading “Americas Team” to the promised land. Now at 30 years old, he still may have plenty of playing years left, but his best year of his career statistically was his rookie season when RB Ezekiel Elliott dominated as a rookie. He isn’t as mobile as he used to be after breaking his leg, understandably so, but it was an underrated part of his game that most people look past. He is a game manager that gets paid like a superstar. It’s a shame too, because Dallas has a stacked roster in nearly every position.

WILL – Jalen Hurts
Eagles QB Jalen Hurts has already been close to winning a championship in his young career, as he lost to the Kansas City Chiefs 34-31 in last seasons Super Bowl. Philadelphia has built a team around him that compliments his game well, and he has flourished in Nick Siriannis offense. Hurts is also only 25 years old, so he still has a ton of time to make it back and win a championship before his ability starts to decline. Philadelphia is in a good spot in the weak NFC conference.
WON’T – Deshaun Watson
Watson doesn’t look like the same quarterback that he was in Houston, after sitting out basically two years due to a variety of reasons. The Browns have an amazing defense currently and some good weapons for him to work with, but I don’t know if he can lead a team to a championship. Going toe-to-toe with Patrick Mahomes is completely different than going against a QB like Zach Wilson, and don’t get it twisted; he will have to outperform at least one of the top QB’s in the AFC if he wants to win a championship. I don’t have much faith in that.
WILL – Joe Burrow
Another casualty of the Mahomes era, Burrow and the Bengals should be able to sneak at least one Super Bowl win in somewhere in the next 10-12 years. The Bengals must navigate the cap space situation and figure out how to pay their player’s long term. If they can keep Burrow upright and have a solid defense on the other side of the ball to support him, he can take Cincinnati where they want to go. He is just way too talented not to.
WON’T – Kirk Cousins
Statistically, Cousins is a fine QB. Above average, but I don’t think anyone would call him elite. The big issue with him is that he objectively shrinks in big, primetime games. But that is exactly the issue with Cousins, his stats are always better than his Win-Loss record. It certainly isn’t all on him, but it seems destined that he won’t win a championship.
WILL – Lamar Jackson
Like it or not, Lamar Jackson is a certified winner. All he does is win football games. He is 49-18 in his games as a starter, which is an astonishing 73%-win percentage. He is a 65% passer, which nobody expected when he was coming into the league and has over a 2-1 TD-INT ratio. The only cause for concern is injuries, which he has already dealt with in his young career. Baltimore historically always has a good defense and has been well run under HC John Harbaugh. That bodes well for the Ravens and Lamar Jackson.
WON’T – Kyler Murray
Murray is electric as they come, and throws a beautiful football, but for some reason I just don’t see it. The Cardinals just paid him over 200 million dollars and are considering moving off him after this season. Yes, he’s coming off of ACL tear which could play a part in that. Still, it makes me believe maybe the Cardinals know something about him that everyone else doesn’t. They put that study clause in his new contract for a reason, even though the Cardinals tried to play it down and eventually took it out. I hate to question a professional athletes work ethic, but I feel it is cause for concern.
WILL – Jared Goff
Here is a curveball for you. I think Goff is in a dream scenario in Detroit. The Lions staff is excellent and fully behind Goff as the franchise QB. Goff has already made 1 Super Bowl appearance, and if can lead the Lions to a Super Bowl win, he would basically be a living legend in all of Michigan. The Lions have been a laughingstock for pretty much all their existence, but right now they are one of the best teams in the NFC and honestly all the NFL. They are in their Super Bowl window currently, and with a weak NFC conference, they might have a few cracks at a long playoff run. Enjoy this time, Lions fans.
WON’T – Bryce Young
I’m fully aware that I am playing a dangerous game by saying that a Rookie QB who is also has no weapons, a bad defense, and even worse play calling won’t win a Super Bowl; but someone must say it. Young has shown flashes of excellence, but all the worries scouts had about him going into the league has come to fruition. He looks extremely small compared to the others, and doesn’t seem to be able to throw with the same anticipation that he did at Alabama. He also isn’t as mobile as he was perceived to be because NFL players are simply faster than college players and he isn’t a speedy guy. Carolina needs to support him, and they better do it fast before it’s too late. I hope I’m wrong with this pick.
