Every position is important in the NFl but there’s no denying that quarterback is the most valuable of them all. When teams think they’ve found their next franchise guy they would do almost anything to get them and then keep them.
Of course sometimes those teams overvalue who they have and at some point realize it’s time to move on. That’s why for this list we will be going over 5 NFL Quarterbacks Who Will Definitely Change Teams…And 5 Who Will Retire With Their Current Teams
Change Teams: Dak Prescott
Prescott is certainly in that conversation for top 10 quarterback in the league but at this point he is 30 and will never develop into that MVP caliber guy the Cowboys need. With his contract to be done at the end of the 2024 season it’s hard to believe Cowboys ownership is investing another big paycheck into him.
You also need to take into consideration that the Cowboys traded for the former third overall pick Trey Lance. That’s not to say however that other teams would love to have a player of his caliber but it’s most likely not going to be Dallas.
Retire With Current Team: Justin Herbert
The Chargers had stability at quarterback for 16 years with Philip Rivers. Once he was gone it took only a few years for Los Angeles to find his replacement. Herbert recently signed a five year extension worth $262.5 million. With so much invested into the young QB it’s hard to believe that the Chargers don’t see him retiring with the team.

When you find talent at quarterback you need to hold onto it and that is exactly what Los Angeles has managed to do.
Change Teams: Kirk Cousins
There’s already been plenty of rumors that after this season the Vikings would not be bringing Kirk Cousins back. Now after suffering an Achilles tear that ended his season those rumors are even closer to coming true. It seems like the Vikings just don’t believe that Cousins is the guy to take them to the next level.
Before his injury he was playing at what seemed like his best football ever but at the age of 35 it’s hard to believe that a team is willing to give an extension to someone that might last until their 40s.
Retire With Current Team: Joe Burrow
This is another case of a team finding their next franchise quarterback and holding onto them for dear life. In just his second season Burrow was able to lead Bengals to their first Super Bowl since the 1998 season. Just like Herberrt, Burrow was given a massive five-year $275 millions extension.
With how popular he is with his team and the city of Cincinnati it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Burrow spend his entire career with one organization.
Change Teams: Matthew Stafford
The Rams went all in for the 2022 season to win the ultimate prize but now just a few seasons later we see it might have cost them their future. Stafford was a huge piece in bringing Lombardi back to Los Angeles which rewarded him with a four-year $160 millions extension.
Don’t be surprised though if we don’t see that contract fully play out as the Rams are not set up financially well. After declining to renegotiate his contract in July of 2023 tensions could rise between him and the organizations.
Retire With Current Team: Patrick Mahomes
The Chiefs will do anything in their power to make sure they keep Mahomes until his name is enshrined in the Hall of Fame. On July 6, 2020 he inked a new 10-year $450 millions contract that was the largest in American professional sports history. If that doesn’t show trust in a player then nothing else ever will.
There are already conversations of him being the greatest quarterback of all time and he’s just 28 years old. The Chiefs will keep signing him to a record breaking contract until the day he is retired.
Change Teams: Russell Wilson
After being traded to the Denver Broncos many believed that this immediately turned them into a contender. Realistically it only seemed to make them worse as they went 5-12 finishing last in the AFC West. WIlson himself threw 16 touchdowns to 11 interceptions.
IF we don’t see a major turnaround in the 2023 season not many would be shocked to see the Broncos move on from Wilson and turn to the upcoming draft to find a replacement for his position.
Retire With Current Team: Trevor Lawrence
Coming out of college Lawrence was one of the most hyped college prospects we had seen in some time. The Jaguars spent the first overall pick for him and haven’t regretted it one bit. He led them to their first postseason appearance since 2017 and even made it to the Divisional round.
With his rookie contract expiring soon, Jaacksonville should be signing the young star to a new contract any time now.
Change Teams: Daniel Jones
During the 2023 offseason the Giants signed Jones to a four-year $160 million contract making him one of the highest paid quarterbacks in the NFL. It was a contract that has been heavily criticized by analysts and fans alike as Jones hasn’t shown he can play up to the level that warrants a contract like this.
With the Giants having a less than ideal first year since this extension there could certainly be major changes to the organization. It’s hard to imagine a scenario where Jones spends the next 10 or more years at the helm for New York.
Retire With Current Team: Josh Allen
Despite their struggles in the playoffs the Buffalo Bills fully believe that Allen is the man to win them their first ever Super Bowl. That’s why they extended him on a six-year $258 million contract. Allen is another case where teams need to realize that they have a top QB talent and need to hold onto them.
It’s not easy to get a QB as great as Josh Allen.
