An interesting trade proposal would see the Minnesota Vikings do business with another 2022 NFC playoff team in the San Francisco 49ers.
Many are curious to see how the 49ers will approach the quarterback this offseason. Jimmy Garoppolo is a goner in free agency, while youngsters Trey Lance (recovering from a season-ending ankle injury) and Brock Purdy (undergoing surgery on his UCL) come with question marks health-wise.
CBS Sports’ Andrew Perloff recently got Twitter buzzing when he proposed a blockbuster deal in which the Vikings send veteran Kirk Cousins to San Francisco in exchange for Lance, a defensive player and a first-round pick.
The 49ers have a tough decision on their hands regarding both Purdy and Lance. On one hand, they went 5-0 with Purdy in the regular season, and they could have won the NFC Championship Game if he didn’t suffer the aforementioned UCL injury against the Philadelphia Eagles.
On the other, they did pay a king’s ransom to trade up to the No. 3 spot in the 2021 Draft, where they wound up taking Lance. The latter has started four games, so it’s still too early to evaluate him.
Purdy is expected to return to action by August, so head coach Kyle Shanahan should have enough time to evaluate Purdy’s health before deciding on a Week 1 starter. But of course, it doesn’t hurt to add a reliable veteran as insurance until both QBs get a clean bill of health.
